Cardamom Health Benefits
While cardamom is nowadays mainly known for its use in exotic cuisine, the spice has also been used as a medicinal remedy since ancient times. Cardamom contains essential oils and antioxidants. Ayurvedic medicine recommends the spice especially for digestive complaints of all kinds, as well as for colds and respiratory complaints. The essential oils are said to have an antispasmodic and expectorant effect.
Cardamom is mainly grown in India, Thailand, Iraq and China. This means that cardamom always has to be imported at great expense and has very long transport routes.
