The city of Darjeeling is located at the easternmost edge of India's state of West Bengal, right at the foot of the Himalayan Mountains. Darjeeling refers to both the town and the district around it, as well as all the teas from this area.
The term Darjeeling is mainly associated with black teas from India. However, only teas from the district of the same name are allowed to bear this name. These are predominantly black, but there are also some oolong teas and even green, white and yellow teas from the area.

The History of Tea Cultivation in Darjeeling
In 1841, the Englishman Archibald Campbell was the first to succeed in growing tea plants in Darjeeling. He had a private garden there and experimented with it. After his successes were publicized, many workers, for example from Nepal, were attracted to the area, which had been relatively unsettled until then. Over the next decades, tea exports grew and prospered magnificently. Several harvests per year ensure a high production of varied and exciting teas that connoisseurs particularly appreciate. Currently, Darjeeling produces between 8,000 and 11,000 tons of tea annually. This small quantity also makes the tea a rarity, which is why we are all the more fortunate to be able to offer you a large selection of teas from the region.
